Operation Market Garden was the code name for the largest airborne operation in the Second World War. The intention was that paratroopers would capture the bridges at Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. They would be reinforced by ground troops advancing from the south. From the beginning of this operation, much went wrong. The weather in southern England was not good, there were communication problems, the German resistance was underestimated. In Arnhem only John Frost had reached the bridge with his troops.
